NATO: Back to the Future?

November 6
7:00 pm

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, NATO has struggled to maintain its relevance, leading missions outside its traditional purview. Now, as Russia flexes its muscles, the alliance can return to its Cold War bread and butter. But what does that mandate look like in 2015 and beyond? How does the organization survive, as members fail to meet military spending commitments? How do we evaluate the threat Russia poses to its members? And where does a war-weary Canadian Forces fit in?

Join Sean Maloney, Professor of History at the Royal Military College of Canada; Rob McRae, Director of the Canadian Centre of Intelligence and Security Studies at Carleton University and Canadian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to NATO 2007–2011; Special Advisor in NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division Allison Hart; and Paul Robinson, Professor at the University of Ottawa’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, to discuss the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Moderated by the Canadian Press’s Stephanie Levitz.
